Economic Development Committee approves prior minutes, defers cannabis legislation stance

HOLLISTON — The Holliston Economic Development Committee unanimously accepted its prior minutes and scheduled the next meeting for April 15. Committee member Glenn Brown argued that proposed water and septic restrictions in Lowland Industrial Park and Zone 2 would inhibit business relocation and expansion, compared to less stringent residential standards in Medfield and Hopkinton; the committee agreed water safety is important but that a more effective approach exists without suppressing business growth. Members endorsed a streamlined change-of-occupancy proposal from Ed Daniels and discussed a new business playbook to integrate into the town website.
The committee deferred taking an official position on retail cannabis sales legislation until the April 15 meeting, with member Tina Chemini suggesting that including medicinal sales might improve voter acceptance.
