HOLLISTON --

TOWN -- The Select Board and Parks Commission held a joint meeting on Sept. 14 to interview candidates for a Parks Commission vacancy left when member Shaw Lively moved out of town. The appointment is temporary, running until the next town election in May 2027.

Candidate Mike Carvalho, who said he coached youth soccer in Holliston after moving to town in 2015, told the boards the Holliston Bike Park project will break ground in October. He said he regularly attends Holliston High School girls' soccer and football games and raised possible future priorities including additional rail trail amenities, a dog park and continuing to improve town soccer fields.

Candidate Lisa, president of the Holliston youth baseball and softball program and a board member for Holliston Youth Football, said she also runs concession stands for youth football, lacrosse and wrestling. She said she worked with the Parks Department and the CPC this year on a joint project to upgrade Stoddard Park's baseball and softball fields with new backstops and fencing, and to help fund improvements to the girls' softball field at the high school. She said youth baseball registration numbers "continue to go up." Looking ahead, she cited a need for additional field lighting for later practices and games, and said youth football needs its own dedicated fields.

A statement read on behalf of a third candidate, Megan Krenzyleski, who did not attend, described Holliston's "soccer and baseball field with brand new recreational buildings" and its summer programming among the town's recreational assets.

The boards did not announce a decision on the appointment during the portion of the meeting reviewed.
