School Committee · Meeting of October 22, 2026
Holliston School Committee approved a new ESL literature course and opened FY28 budget planning on October 22. The panel voted unanimously to add an English as a Second Language literature class at the high school, raising the EL teacher position from 0.6 to 0.8 full-time equivalent, after Superintendent Dr. Carter's staff found students were being improperly kept out of English classes under outdated guidance.
Carter outlined a draft budget calendar running through a February 25, 2027 public hearing and a May 10, 2027 Town Meeting vote, saying the district still lacks a target number from the town: "We have not heard that yet." The committee also reviewed, but did not vote on, a draft 2027-28 school calendar flagging a May 19 conflict between an AP Psychology exam and prom. Late in the meeting, member Jess Ommen objected to executive-session agenda wording she said mischaracterized her remarks as a personal complaint, saying, "I made no complaints against anybody in that meeting," before moving to rename the item "Citizens Claim."
