Select Board · Meeting of June 8, 2026
Holliston Select Board and School Committee jointly appointed retiring Miller Elementary principal David Kime to a one-year School Committee seat in an 8-0 vote at a June 8 joint meeting. The appointment, effective July 1, fills a vacancy created by the April resignation of member Joe Peru and follows a contentious June 2 meeting at which a candidate later withdrew, prompting public backlash and an online harassment campaign that both boards condemned. Select Board Chair Benjamin Sparrell called the conduct "vitriolic and bullying" and "unacceptable," while School Committee Acting Chair Don, speaking for the committee, acknowledged the June 2 process had been "unclear to some" and committed to greater transparency.
The boards agreed to open applications immediately for a second vacant seat, created by the June 4 chair resignation, with letters due June 18, candidate names to be published publicly that day, and a joint appointment meeting targeted for the week of June 25. The board also voted unanimously to impose a temporary 9-a.m.-to-noon parking ban on Mark Tree Road, Robin Hill Road, and Greenview Road on school days from August 28 through November 25, a pilot aimed at curbing student parking in those neighborhoods. At meeting's end, the board reorganized: Damon Dimmick was appointed chair, Sparrell became clerk, and Tina Hein was named vice-chair.
