Holliston Select Board closes May Town Meeting warrant amid federal budget warning from Senate President. Senate President Karen Spilka and Representative James Arena-DeRosa told the board Monday that federal cuts are pushing nearly $4 billion in financial impacts onto Massachusetts, forcing the state to approach this budget season with caution despite revenues running about $800 million ahead of last year. Spilka highlighted recent Holliston investments including a $1.5 million MassWorks grant, a $1 million federal contribution to the downtown sewer project, and a $1 million bridge funding gap grant.
The board voted 3-0 to close the warrant, locking in a feasibility study article for a new Holliston High School under the MSBA process. Principal Assessor Kevin Rudden presented six proposed articles for senior, veteran, and small business tax relief, including a new short-term hardship deferral and a means-tested debt exclusion exemption modeled on Hopkinton's program. The board also voted 3-0 to appoint Bob Durling to the Open Space Committee for a term expiring June 2026.
